SAEA successfully concluded its recent Spring conference, which covered continued presentations about work in five primary focus areas, one of which is shelter and housing for IDPs and refugees.
SAEA Engineer members discussed the serious housing crisis and began to research and devise sensible and economic plans for relief. However, with the magnitude of the tragedy, the main concern is to secure immediate funding to keep plans for renovating and preparing housing complexes going forward. Speed and sustainability are key criteria for the goal of utilizing technical engineering expertise to devise buildings that resist natural and manmade disasters.
A focus group in this area is leading the charge on securing grant funding to move this project forward.
